Joseph Nicholson Jr., Chairman/CEO of Red Jacket Orchards, returned to the farm in1972 after working as a junior security analyst with Bache and Co. on Wall Street in N.Y.C. Prior to Wall Street, Joe served on a U.S. Navy mine sweeper attaining the rank of Lieutenant J.G. He received a B.S. in economics from Villanova University (1964) and an M.B.A. from Xavier University (1966). Joe has been an active industry leader serving in various capacities, including President of the former Western NY Apple Association and recently astrustee to the U.S. Apple Association. After 30 years in the business, his passion continues to be growing unique, high quality flavorful fruit and most of his days are spent on the farm doing just that. Brian Nicholson, President, returned to the family business after spending 4 years as an account supervisor for New York City advertising agency Jordan, McGrath, Case & Partners/Euro RSCG. At JMCP, Brian managed Procter & Gamble's Bounty paper towel brand. Prior to launching his advertising career he played a key role in developing RJO's wholesale division in NYC in 1995. Brian has also worked as a marketing manager for Langeveld Bulb Co., an international flower bulb company headquartered in Holland. Mark Nicholson, Executive Vice President, served as the Industry Information Manager for the U.S. Apple Association for approximately 3 years before rejoining the famil y operation. In this capacity he was responsible for market analysis and issues management for the apple industry. Prior to his advocacy role on behalf of the industry, Mark was a marketing specialist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mark worked as Red Jacket’s Farm Operations Manager in 1995 and as the New York Metro Sales and Marketing Manager in 1997. He is a 1994 graduate of Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, receiving a B.S. in Pomology. Roger Morse, Vice President of Plant Operations, rejoined Red Jacket in March 2005. After servingas the Plant Manager from 1998 to 2000 Roger went on to gain valuable management experience as the Assistant Store Manager for L.L. Bean’s first retail location outside of Maine in Tyson’s Corners, Va. Prior to joining Red Jacket in 1998 Roger worked as the Canadian Sales Marketing Manager for Langeveld Bulb Co. Roger is a 1993 Cornell graduate, where he earned a B.S. in Agriculture Economics. He brings extensive experience in both production and marketing making him valuable member of Red Jacket’s production team. Ethan Poole, Regional Sales Manager, is as homegrown as the local products he sources for our retail partners. A 2002 graduate of Hartwick College, where he received aB.A. in Business Management, Ethan grew up on a neighboring family farm in Geneva. Prior t o Red Jacket, Ethan was the Sales and Marketing Coordinator for Finger Lakes Winery Tours, a local transportation company servicing the Finger Lakes Wine Trails. A two time Captain on the Hartwick College Men’s Lacrosse team and 2002 North/South senior all-star game participant, Ethan spends his free time in spring assisting the Geneva high school lacrosse program. As Regional Sales Manager, Ethan coordinates sales of Red Jacket products and locally sourced Pride of NY produce for our Metro New York distribution operation. Justone Bossert, Director of Greenmarket Operations, comes from a long line of dairy farmers on one side of his family and city dwellers on the other so the idea of working for a farm in the city was a natural fit for him. Justone graduated with a degree in film and television from Boston University in 2002. After college he made promotional videos for Berkeley School of Music students and saved up money so he could travel Europe for half a year. Upon his return to the States Justone arrived in New York and came to Red Jacket through friends in june of 2003. Justone's responsibilities have run the gamut covering all aspect of operations in the Greenmarket. Justone hopes to elevate the importance of food in our daily lives and raise awareness about local, sustainable, and high quality fresh foods. Justone can be reached by phone at (917) 279-4297.
Rich Rossmassler joined Red Jacket in 1995 after graduating from Hobart College in Geneva, N.Y. as a member of the farm club with a B.A. in Economics. After building and running Red Jacket's Greenmarket program for 11 years, Rich passed the reins to Justone Bossert and moved on to an advisory role. Together with the management team and Nicholson family, Rich is helping direct long term planning in the areas of product, market and website development; sustainable practices; and mission statement/company alignment. In addition to advising Red Jacket, Rich is a partner in a sustainable tropical fruit farm in Bahia, Brazil (That's him at the fazenda in the picture).
